Starlight Theatre was recognized among leading companies and individuals for exemplary support of the arts in Kansas City at the 14th Annual ArtsKC Awards Luncheon on Feb. 23.

Nominated for the 2017 ArtsKC Fund Excellence Award, Starlight was in good company as a finalist alongside Bank of Blue Valley and Lathrop & Gage. While the award ultimately was presented to Bank of Blue Valley president and CEO Bob Regnier, Starlight was lauded for having achieved 100-percent employee participation in last year’s ArtsKC Fund workplace giving campaign. Our theatre, an ArtsKC Ovation grant recipient, was also recognized for its performing arts education and community outreach programs.

“Starlight staff and leadership have been committed to active participation in the ArtsKC Fund since the fund’s inception in 2007,” said Cindy Jeffries, Starlight vice president of marketing and sales. “To have been selected as an award finalist is truly an honor. As an arts organization that both gives to and receives from the ArtsKC Fund, we thank all of the donors who give generously each year!”

Starlight also congratulates Mark McHenry, director of Kansas City Parks and Recreation, on receiving the ArtsKC Advocate Award at the February luncheon. McHenry was recognized for being “the steward of the city’s many cultural treasures…and for advancing arts and culture in our city.” In his acceptance speech, he recognized Starlight and several other KC Parks-related attractions and organizations for their contributions to the community.

McHenry has been the KC Parks representative on Starlight’s Board of Directors for many years.
