Dolly will be back where she belongs when Hello, Dolly! Plays under the stars as the final show in the 2019 AdventHealth Broadway Series. This iconic show first premiered on the Great White Way in 1964, starring Carol Channing in the title role and winning a record-setting 10 Tony Awards that year. Since then, Hello, Dolly! has been revived on Broadway numerous times, each to critical acclaim, but this most recent revival headed to Starlight has been called the best of the best. LOVE ACTUALLY? The Unauthorized Musical Parody to Play Limited Run This Winter

A parody of the 2003 British Christmas-themed romantic comedy that tells nine intertwined stories, Love Actually, is headed to Off-Broadway stages in New York City. Written by Bob and Tobly McSmith, the same writers that brought us Friends! The Musical Parody and Bayside! The Saved by the Bell Musical, Love Actually? The unauthorized musical parody will include songs like, “A Joni Mitchell CD?, The 11 O’Clock Grand Gesture Number,” and “Love is Actually” and is set to play a limited run this winter at the Jerry Orbach Theater. Bob and Tobly McSmith also wrote the hit spoof, The Office! A Musical Parody, coming to Starlight Indoors February 4-9, 2020.

Richard Linklater to Spend 20 Years Making Sondheim Musical Movie

Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater has another   project in the works - and this one has a big Broadway name tied to it. Similar to his film Boyhood, Linklater will shoot a film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Merrily We Roll Along over two decades, with Tony Award winner Ben Platt at the helm of the project. Merrily We Roll Along tells the story of a Broadway composer turned Hollywood producers, and moves backwards in time from the height of his fame. It originally premiered on Broadway in 1981, and recently saw an Off-Broadway revival as well. We’ll bring you updates on this new film version as we have them - over the next 20 or so years.

Blue Star Awards Workshops Prepare Students for College

Mark your calendars for the 18th annual Blue Star Awards Ceremony, taking place May 21, 2020. Modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards, this program recognizes the accomplishments of high school musical theatre students across Kansas City. Knowing that many of these students plan to pursue careers in the performing arts after high school, Starlight now offers a variety of college preparatory workshops for students from participating Blue Star Awards high schools. The next workshop takes place at Starlight on Saturday, October 5, and costs just $40 for students and $20 for each parent or guardian.
