It won’t be long before the calendar turns to March, and spring break is upon us. If your family isn’t headed to a distant locale, Starlight Theatre would be thrilled to keep your aspiring young artists engaged and entertained all week long.

At Starlight, we’re offering both our popular Spring Break Camp, now for children in grades 1 to 5, and a new series of musical theatre master classes for youth in middle and high school:

  • 2 Spring Break Camp sessions: March 13-17 or March 20-24
Theatre professionals will unleash your child’s creativity and talents when they attend Starlight’s Spring Break Camp. Campers in grades 1 to 5 explore acting, singing and dance; rehearse and create sets, props and costumes for a production to be staged for family and friends at the end of the week; and enjoy fun theatre games to enhance their skills.

The five-day camp meets from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Before and after care are available for an additional fee. The enrollment fee is $225, and no previous performance experience is required.  Register online for Spring Break Camp.

  • NEW Spring Break Master Classes meet half-days: March 14-16 or March 21-23

New for spring break 2017, Starlight offers a series of three half-day master classes for students in middle and high school. Each master class will focus on a different genre of musical theatre, including Golden Age, Contemporary and Pop-Rock. Because the focus differs each day, students may attend one, two or all three master classes.

Professional teaching artists will help prepare young artists for auditions and performance in each genre. Students will use solo and group pieces to explore each style; vocal performance will be emphasized, with related movement and acting included. Participants will leave each master class with an awareness of terminology and trends, audition songs and an understanding of how to prepare their voices for the demands of musical theatre.

Master classes for students in grades 6 to 8 meet from 9 a.m. to noon and cost $55 each. Classes for students in grades 9 to 12 meet from 1 to 5 p.m. and cost $70 each. Those who register for all three classes receive a 10-percent discount. Register online for Spring Break Master Classes.
