A wrap party in late January officially concluded the 2019 season for the Starlight Stars and Starlight Stars of Tomorrow performance troupes. Before they headed into their off-season, however, the participating middle and high school students cheered on two peers who were awarded $500 scholarships from Starlight and the programs’ donors.

M’racle Bryant-Morgan, a sophomore at Summit Christian Academy, and Emily Guldner, a junior at William Chrisman High School, received this year’s scholarships based upon the leadership, commitment and enthusiasm they brought to the Starlight Stars.

Both joined the Starlight Stars in summer 2016 and have continued annually since. They also have been among the youth performers featured in Starlight galas and community holiday performances.

Starlight education and outreach manager Andy Pierce has worked with both students since the beginning of their association with Starlight and has seen tremendous growth.

“M’racle is always a burst of energy, and her positivity is infectious in rehearsals and performances,” Pierce said. “Through the years, we’ve seen her grow as a performer and leader. The confidence she has gained in her performance ability raises the bar for fellow troupe members.”

Likewise, Pierce noted that Guldner sets a positive example for others, especially younger performers. “Emily arrives at every rehearsal ready to work and learn,” he said. “She is a Starlight Star who will actively engage new members and get to know them. She asks questions and seeks clarity to help herself and others improve.”

The annual scholarships are generously underwritten by the Howard & Rosalyn Jacobson Donor Advisory Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Kansas City.

Auditions for the 2020 Starlight Stars and Starlight Stars of Tomorrow will take place at Starlight on March 23, 24 and 28. Visit kcstarlight.com/education for full details. To RSVP to audition, email education@kcstarlight.com.
