It’s a bird, it’s a plane...no it’s Supergirl star Melissa Benoist making her Broadway debut in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Benoist succeeded Chilina Kennedy, who first took over the title role from Tony winner Jessie Mueller in March 2015. This jukebox musical made its Broadway premiere in 2013 and was the winner of two 2014 Tony Awards. It continues to play to packed houses in New York City and on tour across the United States.

Broadway-Bound Cher Show Launches in Chicago

The Cher Show

“Save up all your tears,” because although The Cher Show is closing at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre, the bio-musical will make its Broadway debut later this fall! Featuring 35 smash hits, six decades of stardom and two rock-star husbands, this new musical has wow’ed dozens of sold-out audiences in its short Windy City engagement. Broadway previews for The Cher Show are scheduled to begin November 1st at the Neil Simon Theatre, with the show’s opening night set for December 3rd.

CATS Movie Slated to Begin Filming in November

The “Memory” of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS will continue to live on, as production for a film adaptation of the iconic musical is scheduled to begin in the U.K. this November. Olivier Award-winning choreographer Wayne McGregor has signed onto the Tom Hooper-directed film, which will be released sometime in late 2019 or early 2020. The original Broadway production of Cats ran for more than 17 years at the Winter Garden Theatre, winning seven Tony Awards and playing nearly 7,500 performances.

Check out the Starlight STARS July shows

Starlight Stars

This year, 14 talented area high school students were selected to join the Starlight STARS, an elite performance troupe that train throughout the summer and early fall with local and national theatre professionals. Alongside their training, the STARS produce a charming musical theatre medley to perform before select Broadway shows at Starlight and in the community throughout the summer. Don’t miss the Starlight STARS perform during The Big Picnic at the Nelson-Atkins on Sunday, July 22nd at 4 p.m. or on Starlight’s Spotlight Stage before Hairspray on Tuesday, July 31st at 7 p.m. and 7:20 p.m.
