On this week’s episode, the 2019 Tony Award nominations have been announced, there’s a Destiny’s Child bio-musical in the works, Starlight’s Blue Star Awards will be held May 23, and a new company is transforming set pieces to give them a new life.

The Tony nominations are in and the brand-new Broadway musical Hadestown leads the pack, snagging nominations in 14 categories, including Best Musical, Best Choreography and Best Original Score. Also in the running of Best Musical is The Prom and the screen-to-stage hits Tootsie and Beetlejuice, the jukebox musical Ain’t Too Proud: The Life & Times of the Temptations. Throughout the night, awards will be presented in 26 competitive categories, with additional, special and honorary Tony Awards presented as well. Hosted by James Corden, the 73rd Annual Tony Awards will be held Sunday, June 9, and broadcast live on CBS.

Beyoncé's Father Matthew Knowles Prepping Broadway-Aimed Destiny's Child Bio-Musical

We are Dangerously in Love with the idea of a Destiny’s Child musical! Beyonce’s father and former manager of the R&B girl group, Matthew Knowles, says that Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical is in the works and will give audiences the opportunity to see the honest successes and failures that took place when he risked it all for the chance to fulfill their dreams. With an eye on Broadway and London’s West End, Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical will premiere in Knowles’ Hometown of Houston before embarking on a national tour.

And the 2019 Blue Star Awards Nominees Are ...

Earlier this month, high school theatre students and instructors across metropolitan Kansas City and in neighboring communities received word that they had received nominations for Starlight Theatre's Blue Star Awards, with Starlight representatives personally delivering 176 nominations to 48 area high schools. Congrats to all of the nominees for your hard work throughout the 2018-19 Blue Star Awards program. On Thursday, May 23, the Blue Star Award winners will be announced at a public ceremony on Starlight Theatre’s Cohen Community Stage, and is free and open to the public.
