Viral Video Sensation Makes KC Debut at Starlight

Dena Blizzard is One Funny Mother, and she’s hitting the road to bring the laughs to Kansas City audiences at Starlight Indoors, Feb. 19-24. Best known from her viral videos, the Back to School Rant and Chardonnay Go, Dena is a comedian and married mother of three who stars in this hit one-woman comedy show.
An evening of laundry, laughs, and maybe a little liquor, One Funny Mother explores the trials and tribulations of motherhood and marriage in a mix of storytelling, stand up, and even some audience interaction. Quickly, Dena becomes like a confidante to the audience with hilariously relatable tales of her kids, her husband, and all of the riotously disenchanted scenarios that go along with raising a family.
Although she’s now the internet’s funniest mom, it wasn’t until she was turning 30, when her husband bought her a comedy class, that she even started to explore the idea of stand-up comedy. At first, she was afraid that she wouldn’t be funny—but a meltdown in the middle of a busy mall from her two-year-old son changed that. As she puts it, it’s way more embarrassing to be a mom than to not be funny.
Inspired by motherhood’s universal themes and experiences (like a public toddler meltdown), Dena wanted other women to know that “they are not alone” in the calamities of motherhood. She got to work on the first incarnation of One Funny Mother in the mid-2000s, and after six years of developing the script while on tour across the U.S., the show premiered in New York City. Shortly thereafter, the show was named the “Best One Woman Show” at the 2015 United Solo Festival and hit the road again—this time backed with the popularity from her online followers.
Still need to be convinced? In addition to her viral videos that have garnered more than 100 million combined views, you can catch Dena weekly on her live Facebook show, “Tipsy Tuesday,” at 7 p.m. CST.
