Nominate a Teacher for a National Theatre Award
2016-01-28 CATEGORY: Broadway
Behind every great performance is inspiration, and behind inspiration is a great teacher.
The Tony Awards® and Carnegie Mellon University want to celebrate the teachers who create the next generation of theatre artists. Through their Excellence in Theatre Education Award program, the organizations seek to recognize dedicated teaching professionals who discover, nurture and inspire talented students, preparing them for a lifelong journey as theatre supporters and professionals.
Members of the public are invited to submit candidates for the “2016 Excellence in Theatre Education Award” by sharing stories of the theatre educators who made a difference in their lives and the lives of others. Applications for the second annual award competition are due Feb. 29.
Candidates nominated by the public will be screened and vetted by a panel of judges from The Broadway League, the American Theatre Wing and Carnegie Mellon University.
Award finalists will be announced this spring, and the winning teacher will receive his or her award June 12 at the 70th Annual Tony Awards and be acknowledged on the CBS telecast.
The 2016 awardee will receive a cash prize for his or her school, flight to New York City, hotel accommodations and a pair of tickets to the Tony Awards Ceremony and Gala at the Beacon Theatre. Selected finalists will receive $1,000 for their schools, a flight for one to New York City, hotel accommodations and one ticket to the Tony Awards Nominee Luncheon.
Starlight Theatre encourages our patrons to nominate arts educators who instilled a love of performance in themselves or their children.
