KU Grad is Leading Lady of Camelot
2015-05-29 CATEGORY: Broadway
When Starlight Theatre transforms to the kingdom of Camelot in early June, Mary McNulty (aka Queen Guenevere) may get extra applause from KU alumni in the crowd. That’s because McNulty is a fellow grad, having earned her BFA in theatre and voice from the KU School of Music.
In anticipation of her six-day run on the Starlight stage as Camelot’s leading lady, this St. Louis native and New York actress shared some thoughts about the national tour’s upcoming stop in Kansas City:
Q. While a student at the University of Kansas, did you get familiar with the Kansas City area?
A. Yes! I've been to KC countless times to see friends’ shows, meet up with family, etc. It’s always fun to have lunch and go shopping on the Plaza.
Q. What are a few of your favorite memories?
A. A few years back I went to see a production of Legally Blonde at the Starlight. It was such a wonderful evening of theatre!
Q. Are there any “must-do” or “must-see” items on your list while in town?
A. The Kauffman Center for sure! I'm hoping I can catch a matinee! I've also been telling my cast and crew to check out some of the BBQ places. (I'm not a meat eater personally, but I hear KC has the best barbecue!)
Q. What are you most looking forward to about performing in Kansas City at Starlight Theatre?
A. I feel as though the Starlight is my “home game,” so to speak, and I couldn't be more proud to perform on this stage. I am looking forward to having family, friends, professors and mentors see this gorgeous production ofCamelot.
Q. Are you a baseball fan? Two of the teams with the best records in baseball, the Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals face off in St. Louis the weekend you’re at Starlight…who will you root for?
A. Oh, tough question! That's about as tough as choosing between Arthur and Lancelot! I wish I could see the game, but, alas, I will be enjoying a joust onstage while they face off.
Hear ye! Hear ye! The national touring production of Camelot lights up the “knight” skies at Starlight on June 9-14. Click to learn more and get tickets to see McNulty steal the hearts of King Arthur and Sir Lancelot.
