Kids 5 to 14 Can ‘Camp’ at Starlight This Summer
2014-04-07 CATEGORY: Education
Youngsters looking to tap into their star potential are invited to join in the fun of Starlight Theatre’s summer camp programs. There’s still time to register your kids for our wildly popular Act Like An Animal Camp (for ages 5-10) and Camp Take-a-Bow (for ages 11-14).
During their two weeks at Act Like An Animal Camp, children spend half of each day at Starlight honing their acting, movement and music skills; the other half of the day is spent next door at the Kansas City Zoo interacting with animals, doing craft projects and enjoying camp games. Camp culminates with a live performance and art display for families. Act Like An Animal Camp sessions are scheduled for June 16-27 and July 28-Aug. 8. Campers meet from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each weekday, and After Care is available. Maximum registration for each camp session is 60.
Newly introduced last summer, Camp Take-a-Bow is Starlight’s answer to the frequent parent question “What do I do now that my child is too old for Act Like An Animal Camp?” At the seven-day Camp Take-a-Bow, tweens and young teens explore their inner performing artist. Participants enjoy intensive training in singing, dancing and acting, while also gaining hands-on experience with creating sets, costumes and props. Each afternoon is spent in rehearsals for a fully produced musical performed for parents and families on the final day of camp. In 2014, Camp Take-a-Bow will meet July 2, 3 and 7-11 from 8:30-3:30 p.m. Up to 30 participants will be accepted.
