KATIE KALAHURKA directed Arf! The Musical for Starlight’s Spring Break Camp in 2014 and previously was a cast member of Starlight’s educational touring program, Just Imagine. Other directing credits include Frida: A Self Portrait at The Living Room Theatre and the sold-out run of Sylvia at The Buffalo Room, which benefited Wayside Waifs.
While Katie considers directing a joyful experience, she works primarily as an actor. Her local acting credits include How to Steal a Picasso, The Oldest Boy, and Nickel and Dimed at Unicorn Theatre; A Christmas Carol, Pippin, A Christmas Story, Into The Woods and A Flea in Her Ear at Kansas City Repertory Theatre; Ghost-Writer at Spinning Tree Theatre; 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at New Theatre Restaurant; Glorious! at American Heartland Theatre; Kiss Me Kate at Musical Theater Heritage; The Rocky Horror Show and Reefer Madness for Eubank Productions; and A Man of No Importance at Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre. Regionally, she has performed in the tours of Gypsy, Oklahoma! for Prather Entertainment Group, Nunsense at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, The Unsinkable Molly Brown at Jackson Hole Playhouse, Smoke on the Mountain at Lime Kiln Theatre, and Mother Divine at Western Playhouse. Katie currently is working on the revival of her highly acclaimed original show, Lessons from Marlene: A One-Woman Cabaret.
An active voiceover artist, Katie can be heard as the spokeswoman for UMKC and Avila University. She holds a BFA in music theatre from Illinois Wesleyan University and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity.
