Starlight STARS of Tomorrow


Premiere musical theatre training and performance program for 7th through 12th grade students

Do you have a talent for singing, dancing and acting? Are you entering grades 7 through 12 in the fall of 2013? Do you want to be part of all the fun and excitement at Starlight Theatre this summer and beyond? Come audition to be a part of Starlight Theatre’s premiere performance troupe – the Starlight STARS of Tomorrow!

Interested in becoming part of the Starlight STARS excitement this year? Starlight STARS...

  • Enjoy intensive study in dance, acting and voice

  • Participate in master classes led by Broadway cast members involved in Starlight’s season

  • Perform throughout the summer on Starlight’s Spotlight Stage prior to Broadway performances

  • Meet on a regular basis throughout the summer, fall and holiday season for further training and additional performances

  • Serve as goodwill ambassadors who represent Starlight Theatre as they sing, dance and act their way into the hearts of area residents

Audition Info:

We will host two separate audition dates for the program. Those auditioning need only attend one of the established dates.

Check-in Time: 12:30 p.m. with auditions beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Check-in Time: 6:30 p.m. with auditions beginning at 7:00 p.m.

All those auditioning must arrive at the established check-in time. We will move as quickly as possible, but we cannot guarantee an end time for either session. Those auditioning will be released when we have heard each individual sing, and once all have taken part in a group dance audition.

RSVP: An RSVP is required to audition. To RSVP, please message us at education@kcstarlight.com with the following:
preferred audition date, student name, current grade level, phone number, parent/guardian name/s

Parking:
Park in the Zebra Lot of the Kansas City Zoo (slightly to the north and east of Starlight Theatre). Enter through Gate 8 on the east side of Starlight and proceed to the double doors on the east side of the Administration Building. Signage will direct you.

Cost:
If selected, the cost of the Starlight STARS of Tomorrow program, including all master classes, is only $400 for the summer, fall and holiday season!

Audition Requirements:

  In order to be selected for the program, those auditioning must complete a vocal and dance audition.

Prepare:

 
  • 32 memorized bars of a Broadway musical piece that shows off your vocal range. Starlight will provide an accompanist.
  • Wear clothes and shoes suitable for movement and a group dance audition.
  • Bring:

     
  • Sheet music (accurately marked and in your correct key, accompanist will not transpose)
  • Resumè
  • Current headshot or photo (The headshot/photo will not be returned.)

    Rehearsal Dates:

      Friday, May 31 from 5:30-9:30 p.m.
    Saturday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    Monday-Thursday, June 3-6 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    Friday, June 7 from 8:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. (with showcase for friends and family taking place at 5:00 p.m.)

    All STARS must be present for the late May/early June rehearsals. We are monitoring the metro area schools end of semester scheduling adjustments that have been made because of inclement weather, and will revisit the above rehearsal schedule should it become necessary.

    Performance Dates on the Spotlight Stage at Starlight Theatre:

    After the STARS begin rehearsals, they will be split into two separate performance troupes. These troupes will perform at different times on the Spotlight Stage at Starlight Theatre during the summer. Following are all Spotlight Stage performance dates; however, the troupes will take turns performing on these dates. Exact performance assignments will be made after troupes have been established.

    The Starlight STARS of Tomorrow will continue to meet on a regular basis throughout the summer, fall and holiday season for rehearsals, master classes, and additional performances. Scheduling for these events will be determined with parent/guardian input as we move closer to the summer.
