Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers will bring their co-headline North American tour to Starlight Theatre on Monday, June 18. Kansas City is one of more than 30 U.S. and Canadian cities included on the bands’ 2018 summer tour route.
Founded in 1972, Steely Dan has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. They helped to define the soundtrack of the ‘70s with such hits such as “Reelin’ in the Years,” “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” “F.M.,” “Peg,” “Hey Nineteen,” “Deacon Blues” and “Babylon Sisters” from their seven platinum albums issued between 1972 and 1980. In 2000, Steely Dan released the multi-Grammy-Award-winning album, Two Against Nature, and followed up with the acclaimed Everything Must Go in 2003. The Doobie Brothers have delivered roots-based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven rock ‘n’ roll for the past four decades, selling more than 48 million albums and winning four Grammy Awards. The Doobies’ No. 1 singles, “Black Water” (1974) and “What a Fool Believes” (1979), lead a catalog of indelible hits that includes “Listen to the Music,” “Jesus is Just All Right,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “Long Train Runnin’,” “China Grove,” “Take Me in Your Arms,” “Takin’ it to the Streets,” “Minute by Minute” and more. Their career accomplishments include five Top-10 singles, 16 Top-40 hits, as well as three multi-platinum, seven platinum and 14 gold albums. The band achieved a rare “diamond record” with 1976’s Best of the Doobies, which has sold more than 12 million copies.
The Doobie Brothers’ latest studio album, Southbound, was released in November 2014 and features new recordings of the band’s biggest hits with country music stars including Blake Shelton, Zac Brown Band, Brad Paisley and Toby Keith.
