BLUE STAR PROGRAM

By participating in Blue Star at Starlight Theatre, students have the opportunity to get feedback from working professionals and through interacting with their high school peers from across the metropolitan area. If you would like your school to participate in the Blue Star program during the 2008-09 school year, please contact anne.johnston@kcstarlight.com.

RISING STAR SCHOLARSHIP

As part of the Blue Star program, participating schools are invited to nominate high school seniors who have made outstanding contributions to their high school's musical theatre program. These students can be performers, technicians, production coordinators, stage managers or fill any other role within their musical theatre department. After all nominations are received, our judges select one male and one female high school senior to receive the $2,500 Rising Star Scholarship. The money can be applied to the cost of any college or university, no matter the course of study being pursued. Rising Star Scholarships are made possible through a generous endowment funded by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and Emmy and Michael Morrissey.

OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The newest feature of the Blue Star program is the Outstanding Technical Achievement Award. This important award differs from other Blue Star Awards because teachers are the ones who identify nominees. Each teacher is invited to nominate one student who has given his or her time and talent in a backstage capacity. Nominees can hold roles including stage manager, stage crew, run crew, board operator and costuming.

A one-page essay discussing the nominee’s contribution to the production and to musical theatre overall is required with the application below. Support materials are also encouraged.
