MUSICAL THEATRE TRAINING PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Program Dates: JUNE 2 - 20, 2008 (Monday - Friday)
9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily
Starlight Theatre is excited to begin its third summer of the Starlight STARS musical training program. For three weeks in June, high school students will study dance, voice and participate in master classes led by local professionals in acting, ensemble building, mask work, improv and more. Students also will work to create a medley of songs from Starlight’s Broadway season, which they will perform throughout the summer on Starlight’s Community Stage prior to Broadway performances. Starlight STARS also will enjoy workshops led by Broadway cast members involved in Starlight’s summer season. This three-week training program costs $250.
Starlight STARS Audition Information:
- When: April 19, 2008 at 10 a.m.
- Where: Starlight Theatre, 4600 Starlight Road, Kansas City, MO 64132
- Prepare: 8 to 16 bars of a Broadway musical piece that shows off your vocal range. Starlight will provide an accompanist.
- Bring: Sheet music (accurately marked for accompanist), resume and current photo. Photo will not be returned.
- Wear: Clothes and shoes suitable for movement and group dance audition.

Starlight STARS Instructors:
MUSICAL DIRECTOR: In his 24th year of teaching, STEVE PERRY is the Director of Choral Activities at Lee’s Summit North High School. He has served as the District Choral Director for the Kansas City Metro District of MCDA and MMEA and as Choral Vice President for MMEA. In addition to Kansas City Area performances, his choirs have performed on several occasions for the Missouri Music Educators Association, the American Choral Directors Association Southwest Division and at Carnegie Hall. In June 2009, Steve will once again conduct the 180-voice Kansas/Kansas City Ambassadors of Music choir in its European concert tour. He earned a BSE degree from Missouri Western State University and an MM degree in Conducting from the Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri–Kansas City. Steve, who also serves as the Director of Music at Unity Temple on the Plaza, served as the Starlight STARS' first musical director in 2006 and is excited to return this summer!
