One of Starlight Theatre’s own, Donna Thomason, recently received well-deserved honors for her longtime service to the City Union Mission. Thomason, who serves as president and creative director of EPIC Innovative Events, a Starlight subsidiary company, was one of three Kansas City women honored at the City Union Mission’s 10th Annual “Women Who’ve Changed the Heart of the City” Luncheon.

Thomason and her staff at EPIC have partnered with City Union Mission and its luncheon committee members to plan, manage and execute the nonprofit organization’s annual fundraising event since its inception in 2008.

When it was first established, the luncheon’s charter was to raise funds to support the mission’s Camp CUMCITO for disadvantaged children in its family shelter and throughout Kansas City. Over its first nine years, the luncheon raised a total of $5,039,000 to support the camp as well as numerous other programs to empower homeless women and families with the tools and resources needed to create a stable life.

At the April 11th luncheon, Thomason was recognized for her years of service to the annual luncheon, working behind the scenes to engage audiences in the City Union Mission’s cause and deepen their emotional connection to the organization. And City Union Mission is far from the only local organization to benefit from her guidance and support. Under Thomason’s leadership, EPIC in 2016 provided more than $200,000 in pro-bono event services to Kansas City areas nonprofit organizations.

All of us at Starlight applaud Donna and her team for their EPIC-ally charitable contributions to our community, and we also congratulate her fellow 2017 honorees – Binny Pearce and Beth McCown!
