Beautiful – The Carole King Musical plays under the stars June 25-30, and it’s bound to be a week of fantastic music. You may know Carole King from her solo hits “I Feel the Earth Move” and “It’s Too Late”—but before she made it big as a performing artist, she wrote more than two dozen chart-toppers for other musicians, many of which went on to become standards of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Born in New York City in 1942, King was passionate about the music industry from a young age. She sold her first song when she was still a teenager and had a No.1 hit when she was just 17 years old with “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” performed by The Shirelles. In the coming years, she and husband Gerry Goffin went on to pen classics like “The Loco-Motion,” for Little Eva, “Some Kind of Wonderful,” performed by the Drifters, and “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman,” for Aretha Franklin.

King is decorated with numerous honors, including four Grammy Awards. Beautiful – The Carole King Musical also won the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. In 1990, King was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her songwriting achievements, and in 2015 she received the Kennedy Center Honors for her incredible contributions to the performing arts.

Today, many of King’s songs continue to receive covers by music superstars like James Taylor with “You’ve Got a Friend,” Richard Marx with “Beautiful,” and Rod Stewart with “So Far Away.”

Featuring all of these timeless hits, plus many more, Beautiful – The Carole King musical takes you back to where the famous singer/songwriter’s story began. It tells the remarkable journey that King took, from starting out as a teenage songwriter, to her induction in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and everything in between. Still not convinced?
