On Saturday, July 10, 2021, community members from the Swope Park area came together for a free movie night at Starlight. In partnership with Community Builders of Kansas City, and with support from Kansas City Parks and Recreation and Straub Construction, attendees experienced a fun and welcoming atmosphere while enjoying a screening of Disney’s live-action film “Aladdin” under the stars at Starlight’s expansive open-air theatre. Heart to Heart International was also onsite during the event to offer a vaccination clinic.

“We were thrilled to open our gates to our neighborhood for another wonderful, family movie event,” said Deb Churchill, Starlight’s Vice President of Operations.

In addition to bringing families together, the event also provided community students with school resources. The first 100 school-aged children who attended the movie night received a free backpack with school supplies, provided by Straub Construction. Overall, this event enabled local community members to gather with one another and to experience the arts together at one of Kansas City’s premier entertainment landmarks.
