Congratulations to our very own Starlight Theatre Ambassador Jan Morevitska and Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department Director, Mark McHenry, for each earning a 2018 Heart of Kansas City Award from the Greater Kansas City Attractions Association (GKCAA).

GKCAA presented the awards to Morevitska and McHenry at its 2018 annual meeting Nov. 8 at Union Station. Members came together to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year in addition to announcing the award winners.

Morevitska was honored as GKCAA Ambassador of the Year, above all other volunteers and front-line staff in similar roles at attractions across the metro. She is the longest-tenured volunteer at Starlight, having celebrated 50 years and serving in nearly every capacity at the theatre, since 1969.

McHenry was honored with GKCAA’s Individual Achievement Award for his 44 years of dedication to the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department. In 2003, McHenry was appointed director, becoming only the seventh individual to hold that position in the department’s 126-year history.

Founded more than 20 years ago, the GKCAA includes members from many of the city and region’s top attractions, ranging from sports teams to museums, arts organizations to historic sites, and many others. The Heart of Kansas City Awards are presented to individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond expectations to further the goals, objectives and spirit of the Kansas City region’s tourism and hospitality industries.

Congrats again to Jan and Mark! We appreciate all that you do to support Starlight Theatre and the KC Parks Department. We’re proud to have you represent us as part of the GKCAA 2018 Heart of Kansas City Awards!
