Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Miller and his band will delve into their deep catalog of hits from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s for North American audiences this summer. The Steve Miller Band 2017 Summer Tour will play to fans in 32 U.S. cities and Toronto, with a Kansas City stop at Starlight Theatre on July 19.
Joining The Steve Miller Band on tour is special guest Peter Frampton. Over the years, the music superstars have played together in venues from theatres to football stadiums and everything in between.
Steve Miller was a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene of the late 1960s, perfecting a psychedelic blues sound that drew on the deepest sources of American roots music. Then, in the ‘70s, he crafted a brand of rock ‘n’ roll that was polished, exciting and irresistible. Miller’s seemingly endless flow of music, including hits like “The Joker,” “Abracadabra” and “Fly Like An Eagle,” continues to get strong radio play today.
The Steve Miller Band has played to more than 15 million people in the past 20 years. When not touring, Miller contributes volunteer time to the Department of Musical Instruments at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Arts and to Jazz At Lincoln Center. He curates and hosts shows celebrating blues, jazz and early American music at both institutions.
Miller’s special guest, Grammy Award-winning guitarist and songwriter Peter Frampton, is one of the most celebrated musicians in rock history. At age 16, he was lead singer and guitarist for the British band the Herd. At 18, he co-founded Humble Pie, one of rock’s first super groups. Frampton’s session work includes collaborations with such legendary artists as George Harrison, David Bowie, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. His electrifying solo album, Frampton Comes Alive!, stands as one of the top-selling live records of all time.
