Starlight and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art present Van Gogh Alive. Created by Grande Experiences, this large-scale, immersive multi-sensory experience will entertain the whole family. Van Gogh’s works have been displayed and enjoyed around the world for over a century – but never like this. For a limited time only — October 23, 2021, through January 14, 2022, at Starlight Theatre — audiences have the unique opportunity to experience Van Gogh’s artistry and truly venture into his world.
This is no ordinary art exhibition. Traditions of tiptoeing through silent galleries and viewing paintings from afar in quiet contemplation are forgotten as visitors find themselves interacting with art in ways they never imagined. From start to finish, visitors are surrounded by a vibrant symphony of light, color, sound and fragrance that has been called an ‘unforgettable’ multi-sensory experience. Van Gogh’s masterpieces come to life, giving visitors the sensation of walking right into his paintings, a feeling that is simultaneously enchanting, entertaining and educational. Adults and children delight in the super-scale show, viewing artworks from new angles and discovering unique perspectives. But don’t just take their word for it: experience it for yourself!
For Van Gogh Alive, Starlight will transform its stage house into the world of the reveled 19th century painter. Patrons will wander through the exhibit on the same 12,000 square foot stage they see live Broadway productions and concerts performed on each summer.
Starlight is the only official ticketing provider of Van Gogh Alive and tickets may only be purchased online at kcstarlight.com.

What is Van Gogh Alive?
Van Gogh Alive is not an art exhibition in the traditional sense! It is an immersive, multi-sensory multimedia art experience that combines high definition projections of Van Gogh’s paintings with digital surround sound. Imagery and animations are projected at a scale that offers visitors the ability to see the details of the artist’s work like never before. More than 3,000 images transform each surface. There is no physical artwork by Vincent Van Gogh on display.
How much time do I need to see the experience?
Your visit is self-paced, but most visitors can anticipate spending 60 – 90 minutes. The main feature of the exhibition lasts approximately 45 minutes. Unique to Kansas City, the Starlight engagement includes two walk-in representations featuring Van Gogh’s “Bedroom in Arles” painting and the the AARP Kansas City Sunflower Selfie Room — both serving as an incredible backdrop for photographers and selfie lovers.
