'Million Dollar Quartet' prequel 'Heartbreak Hotel' makes Chicago debut
Heartbreak Hotel, a new musical that follows the story of Elvis Presley’s rise to fame, begins its run at Broadway Playhouse in Chicago this month. Eddie Clendening is back starring as Elvis after portraying the rock and roll icon in the original Broadway production of Million Dollar Quartet. The show features dozens of hit Elvis songs including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Shake Rattle and Roll” and, of course, “Heartbreak Hotel.” This rockin’ new musical’s limited engagement at Broadway Playhouse runs through September 9.
Moulin Rouge! Musical Delays Start of Boston World Premiere
The stage musical adaptation of Moulin Rouge! will debute on July 10 at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre. Directed by Tony nominee Alex Timbers, the musical features many of the hit songs from the 2001 movie, as well as additional numbers that have been written in the 17 years since the film's release. Aaron Tveit will portray Christian, an ambitious, lovesick writer, who falls in love with a dazzling chanteuse named Satine, played by Karen Olivo. Moulin Rouge! Plays through August 19 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre.
The 10th annual Jimmy Awards were held this past week at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City. The show celebrates outstanding student theatrical achievement, recognizing individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance. Go-Go's Musical Head Over Heels Begins Performances on Broadway
The new musical Head Over Heels, set to the music of all-female rock band The GoGo's, opened June 23 at the Hudson Theatre in New York City. This inspired mash-up of posh and punk delivers an experience unlike you've ever seen - and features hit songs "We Got The Beat," "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "Vacation" among many more, from the same team that brought us the hits Next to Normal and Spring Awakening.
