Over the past 13 years, Starlight Theatre’s Vincent Legacy Scholarship program has proudly awarded 36 need-based scholarships to ethnically diverse students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

Created with the guidance and financial support of benefactors Greg and Rebecca Reid, the program annually gives two or more students the opportunity to pursue their performance dreams by awarding them $2,500 scholarships to obtain professional training in singing, acting and/or dance. The scholarships, administered by Starlight staff, allow these aspiring young artists to study their craft, grow as performers, gain confidence, polish interview and audition skills and gain access to theatrical opportunities across Kansas City.

Now, Starlight is thrilled to welcome Royals Charities as the newest supporter of the Vincent Legacy Scholarship program. In December 2017, Starlight received $10,000 on behalf of Royals Charities and the Glass family.

“Royals Charities strongly values the opportunity to support education for students who might not otherwise receive the opportunity to follow their dreams,” said Marie Dispenza, director of Royals Charities. “We are proud to provide financial support for this program to complement the volunteer service of our own Kevin Uhlich on Starlight’s Board of Directors.” Uhlich is the Royals’ senior vice president of business operations.

This generous gift will help to ensure the scholarship program’s continued ability to impact the lives of deserving middle-school students and their families.

“We commend Royals Charities for the tremendous work they do to enrich the lives of so many people in the Kansas City community,” said Rich Baker, Starlight president and CEO. “Starlight is very honored to be among the important local organizations they have chosen to support in 2018.”
