Serving Dinner & Our Community

Starlight Theatre staff rolled up their sleeves for a great cause this week. Participating in the United Way’s Care4KC campaign, we made and served dinner to families staying at the local Ronald McDonald House.

Mashed potato bowls and warm apple crisp were on the menu on a cool fall night. We chopped, peeled, sliced, diced, boiled, browned and baked a meal that approximately 20 house residents enjoyed. And there were plenty of leftovers for midnight-snackers!

Group sales coordinator Staci Shute organized the activity as part of Starlight’s community outreach efforts. Shute represents Starlight on the steering committee of GenKC, and that organization asked each committee member to lead a volunteer activity or collection drive at their workplace during the week of Oct. 10-16.

“It was very rewarding to bring a feeling of home to people dealing with the stress of illness in their families,” Staci said. “Plus it was a fun team-building exercise, too.”
