A decade of selflessness and support for Kansas City youth was honored Saturday night, Sept. 26, when Greg and Rebecca Reid were presented the 2015 Star of Touring Broadway Award at Starlight’s Annual Benefit Gala.

The Reids, benefactors of the now decade-old Vincent Legacy Scholarship program at Starlight, received the award from The Broadway League based on a nomination submitted by Starlight. The annual award recognizes board members, government officials, donors and volunteers from Broadway League member organizations who have given support to promote and enrich the Broadway series in their hometowns.

Ten years ago the Reids established an endowment, in memory of Greg’s son Vincent who died in infancy, to provide scholarships to fund performing arts training for qualified minority middle school students. Since that time, 27 students have received Vincent Legacy Scholarships (valued at a total of $65,000) from Starlight and the Reids.

Several of the past scholarship recipients performed at the Starlight Gala and cheered as Betzy Castellon and Courtney Germany, the very first scholarship winners in 2006, surprised the Reids by presenting them the Star of Touring Broadway Award.

“I was a very bashful child,” Courtney said. “By winning this scholarship, I developed a new confidence in myself as my passion for dance skyrocketed!”

Betzy also shared: “The skills I learned in my arts training put me in touch with my emotions and allowed me to care deeply for humanity. That has made all the difference in my (career choice in) nursing. The Reids gave me that!”

All of us at Starlight are proud that the Reids are among our brightest shining stars!
