Starlight Stars

Starlight Stars

The Starlight Stars program is structured to develop and hone the skills of high school performers.

Since 2003, this educational program has prepared company members to pursue arts careers, with alumni performing across the country and abroad. Selected students:

  • Strengthen their resumes
  • Cultivate skills
  • Network with industry professionals
  • Gain experience in a variety of performance styles
  • Are eligible to audition for Starlight productions
  • Become part of the Starlight community

For the 2021 season, the program format and content have been adjusted. The program’s activities take place throughout the summer, with additional fall and winter opportunities. This summer’s sessions will take place in-person, following COVID-19 safety guidelines. Company members receive access to master classes and industry-insider workshops. Scholarship applications available upon request.

Who
Students from the Kansas City metro area in grades 8 through 11 during the current school year (2020-2021) may audition. We will bring the group together at Starlight (in masks and socially distanced), therefore, those auditioning must be local.

When
All video audition submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28.

Audition Submission Information

  • Film yourself horizontally on your phone or computer – try to not have too much space between the top of your head and the top of the frame, but also make sure not to cut off the top of your head!
  • You want to be eye level with the camera. If filming on your phone, please do not hold it in your hand when filming; rest it against something to keep it steady and even.
  • Make sure your recording space is well lit. For best results, set up facing a window that isn’t getting direct sunlight.
  • Introduce yourself at the beginning of your video – include name and grade level.
  • Sing 2 contrasting 32-bar cuts of Broadway musical pieces.
    • For accompaniment, it will need to be a track that does not have other vocals already on it.
  • We also want to see you be you – include a response at the end of your video stating why you would like to be part of the group.
  • Please upload your video to a Google drive or other shareable folder and share it with kcstarlighteducation@gmail.com
  • Using the same email address as above, please send a headshot and resume, along with the following:
    • Your name
    • Grade level during the 2020-2021 school year
    • Parent/guardian name
    • Parent/guardian phone number
    • Parent/guardian email address
    • Any conflicts you may have with current schedule, found in the Program Overview document.

We will confirm receipt of your materials.
