It’s just about time to warm things up inside Starlight Theatre!

The third season of Starlight Indoors opens Tuesday night, Jan. 30 with the fall-down-funny Forbidden Broadway, the first of three comedic shows that will surely turn up the heat and humor inside Starlight’s expansive stage house. Starlight Indoors is generously sponsored by the Missouri Lottery.

Celebrating its 36th year of roasting hit Broadway musicals, Forbidden Broadway is primed to poke some fun at more than 30 hit shows, even newer targets like Frozen, Hamilton and The Book of Mormon. For 90 side-splitting minutes, Starlight audience members will laugh out loud at outrageous costumes, silly song spoofs and madcap impressions by Forbidden Broadway’s stellar cast. And, worth noting, the four-person cast includes a Kansas City connection – performer Valerie Fagan, who has appeared on Broadway in The Addams Family, starred in Forbidden Broadway for 10 years, grew up in Overland Park, Kan., and graduated from UMKC!

Forbidden Broadway, the brainchild of creator/lyricist Gerard Alessandrini, was first seen in a supper club on New York’s Upper West Side in January 1982. Finding immediate success and fans, the show went on to become New York’s longest-running musical comedy revue, win a special Tony Award®, and take home honors including Drama Desk, Obie and Outer Critics Circle awards. Over the past three decades, it’s traveled the world and drawn rave reviews from Boston to Los Angeles, Tokyo to Sydney, and hundreds of places between.

There’s no need to fret if you haven’t seen tons of Broadway hits – you’ll still find the humor in this show. Take it from Variety: “You don’t have to be a Broadway musical fanatic to enjoy this immensely entertaining show!” Or, as The Miami Herald puts it: “Even if you’ve never been within 1,000 miles of New York City, you’ll love Forbidden Broadway!
