On this week’s episode, Girl From the North Country has found its Broadway home, Tick Tick Boom is headed to Netflix, and Hadestown has dropped its cast album - part of it, anyway.
‘Girl From the North Country,’ With Bob Dylan Songs, Is Bound for Broadway
The new musical Girl From the North Country is headed to Broadway after highly successful runs in London’s West End and off-Broadway in New York City. Using songs from Bob Dylan, including “Like A Rolling Stone,” “Forever Young,” and the title song, Girl From the North Country tells the story of a group of Midwesterners struggling in the grips of the Great Depression. Irish playwright Conor McPherson directs the production, which will be his third on Broadway. Girl From the North Country is expected to open on the Great White Way in March of 2020.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick, Tick … Boom! Is Going to Netflix
Lin Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame has a new project in the works - this time, for the small screen. It was just announced that Netflix won the rights to the film adaptation of Tick, Tick… Boom!, an autobiographical musical originally written by Jonathan Larson of Rent fame. The musical tells the story of an aspiring composer in 1990s New York, who’s wrestling with the challenges of a career in the performing arts. This adaptation is Miranda’s feature-length directorial debut.
Hadestown to Roll Out Tracks From Original Broadway Cast Album
The Hadestown cast album is on the way! But this recent Tony Award winning show is doing things a little differently - rather than releasing its cast album all at once, Hadestown is dropping groups of songs in batches this summer. Each batch is tied to pairs or groups of characters in the show, and the final product will feature 40 tracks for a total of more than two hours of music. Inspired by the Greek myth, Hadestown is the retelling of the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, and is currently playing on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
