Open Spaces is the Midwest’s brand-new, premier arts festival hosted right here in Kansas City. Opening August 25 and running through October 28, it includes visual art installations, presentations and concerts at a variety of locations throughout the metro area.

In Swope Park, patrons will find Open Spaces’ main hub, “The Village.” On Saturdays and Sundays, The Village springs to life with free events with different performances every weekend. Surrounding The Village in Swope Park are more than ten works from artists throughout the country for patrons to view and enjoy.

“The Weekend,” the headline event of Open Spaces, will be held at Starlight Theatre October 12-14 and feature some of today’s hottest music artists, with Kansas City, Kan., native Janelle Monae performing Saturday evening. Presentations from artists Sankofa Danzafro, a contemporary dance company, and Kansas City’s own McFadden Brothers, legends of dance, song and instrument, will also appear on the Starlight stage throughout The Weekend, in addition to many more.

“Open Spaces is our moment to open Kansas City up to the world,” Mayor Sly James said. “We have the talent, vision, and support to do it. It’s time to show the world what Kansas City has to offer.”
