Closing night of Blue Man Group gave Starlight Theatre more to celebrate than bald heads, blue faces and pulsing drumbeats. Sunday night, Sept. 14 also marked the arrival of Starlight’s 250,000th guest of the season!

When Dee Hilsinger of Lenexa, Kan., had her ticket scanned at Gate 3 at 7:15 p.m., she became the quarter-millionth person to see a Broadway show or concert at Starlight this summer. She was joined by her son, Joe Schmits, and a friend, Butch Lawrence. Dee was last at Starlight in September 2013 to see Miss Saigon.
Donning blue hats and blowing horns, several members of the Starlight staff surprised Hilsinger with the good news. First, Dee and her guests were upgraded from their seats in Terrace to a prime location in the Orchestra seating section. Then, she received a prize bag with gifts from Blue Man Group, Starlight’s Ovation store and even a pair of tickets to the Ringo Starr concert on Oct. 4.

Dee was thrilled with the recognition and Starlight’s celebration of the attendance milestone. And Butch even had a good story to tell about their fortunate timing: “I guess our decision to sit on a bench outside the gate to finish our sandwiches was a smart one. Otherwise, Dee would have entered too early to be guest number 250,000!”
