March 29 is Deadline to Apply for Vincent Legacy Scholarships
Application materials are now available for Starlight Theatre’s 2019 Vincent Legacy Scholarships. Established in 2006 by community leaders Greg and Rebecca Reid, the scholarships are intended to provide ethnically diverse middle school youth the opportunity to pursue professional training in the performing arts. Not only do scholarship winners receive financial aid for their performing arts training, but the students join a talented pool of former scholars and adult mentors whose mission is to guide and encourage the students as they advance in their careers. Now in its 14th year, Starlight has awarded 36 Vincent Legacy Scholarships to date, with a total value of $87,500.
The Office! A Musical Parody Extends Record Breaking Run
The Office! A Musical Parody has announced that it will once again extend its already record-breaking run at the Jerry Orbach Theater in New York City, this time through July 7. In a loving lampoon of the hit TV show, The Office! A Musical Parody is an immersive theater experience that allows you to “work” with all your favorite coworkers at Dunder Mifflin. Mashable calls the “Charming” and “Rejuvenating” - and patrons agree. The Office! A Musical Parody celebrated their 100th performance in December and broke box office records for the Theater Center Christmas week.
Riverdale to tackle Heathers: The Musical
After tackling Carrie: The Musical last year, producers of the hit CW show Riverdale plan to take on a musical episode once again. Wanting to honor another iconic teen movie, they landed on Heathers: The Musical, the 1989 film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, and plan to air the episode March 20. Riverdale is based on the characters of Archie Comics and follows a group of teenagers as they navigate the dark mystery of a town behind a seemingly perfect facade. The show has received positive reviews and numerous awards, including the Teen Choice Award for Breakout TV Show and the People’s Choice Award for Drama Show of 2018.
Michael C. Hall Stars in Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical
For the second year in a row, the popular candy brand Skittles has taken an alternate route to advertising during the Super Bowl. Rather than spending 5 million dollars on a Super Bowl ad, this year, Skittles produced Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical, a 30-minute production that ran for just one night at Manhattan’s town hall. Starring Michael C. Hall, best known for his role on the Showtime television series Dexter, Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical was a commentary on Super Bowl advertising and product placement, and all proceeds benefited Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Now, if you weren’t one of the lucky few to be in the audience that night, you can listen to the four-song soundtrack on spotify - including the hit song “Advertising Ruins Everything.”
