Meet the Staff

Starlight Theatre’s Bob Rohlf Internship Program offers college students the opportunity to work closely with professionals each summer. These internships take place in various departments of Starlight including Marketing, Community Engagement, Operations and more. 

Meet some of the talented interns working at Starlight this summer!

Nicole

Nicole – Private Events Intern, Event Services Department 
Nicole is attending Kansas State University where she is majoring in Hospitality Management with a minor in Business. She is a member of Gamma Phi Beta, serving as their Membership Vice President! 

As the Private Events Intern, Nicole assists with event preparation and coordination. She helps ensure the readiness of events, guaranteeing a great event experience for both hosts and attendees! 

“This internship provided me with a solid foundation in event planning, organizational skills, and professional relationship building,” said Nicole. “I am confident that the skills and knowledge I have gained will greatly contribute to my future endeavors in the events industry.” 

Cierre

Cierre – Community Engagement Intern, Community Engagement Department 
Cierre is a senior at Lindenwood University, pursuing a BA in Theatre. As a community engagement intern, she has stepped in as a performer with Just Imagine, a program that brings theatre to vulnerable residents. She assisted with the Blue Star Awards and does administrative duties for the team.

Cierre chose Starlight because it offered unique educational opportunities that are directly related to her career path.  

“It was also a great way to immerse myself in Kansas City theatre and get to know the community,” said Cierre.

Jamie in Marketing

Jamie – Marketing and Sales Intern, Sales Department
Jamie is entering her fifth and final year at the University of Central Missouri, majoring in Marketing with a minor in Advertising. 

As Marketing and Sales Intern, Jamie’s responsibilities include booking pre-show acts and bringing awareness to Starlight’s new theme night events.

Jamie was recommended to apply to Starlight’s internship by a professor, and after exploring the Bob Rohlf internship program, she knew this was the place for her. 

“I am so blessed to be able to learn from experts here who have helped me gain an insight to real world experiences,” said Jamie. 

Victoria in Marketing

Victoria – PR & Communications Intern, Marketing Department 
Victoria is a rising junior at the University of Missouri pursuing a Bachelor of Journalism with an emphasis in Strategic Communications and a Certificate of Arts Entrepreneurship. 

As a PR & Communications Intern, she assists in the writing of press materials, content for Playbills, blog articles, and more. 

Victoria has most enjoyed interacting with cast members and local journalists during press engagements this summer.  

“Having the opportunity to see the performing arts from this side of the curtain has been so interesting,” she said. “I have valued my time at Starlight and will use these skills for years in the future.” 

Victoria is excited to move to New York City in January to participate in MU’s internship program for five months!

Karl in accounting

Karl – Accounting Intern, Finance Department 
Karl is a graduate student at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) pursuing a Master’s degree in Accounting. As Starlight’s Accounting Intern, Karl primarily works in accounts payable, revenue, and concessions systems. He is involved with payables and deposit entry, cash processing, data analysis, document digitizing, and assist with financial reporting. 

“I’m so grateful to Starlight for giving me the opportunity to work with them this summer and to be able to learn alongside amazing mentors that have helped out tremendously along the way,” said Karl. 

Karl is also a foodie and has his own food Instagram where he showcases new restaurants and locally owned small businesses. You can find him at @kralskravings! 

Maria in Philanthropy

Maria – Donor Relations Intern, Philanthropy Department 
Maria is a rising junior at Drake University majoring in Public Relations and English with a concentration in Women’s and Gender Studies. As the Donor Relations Intern, she assists with welcoming donors during Broadway shows, writing grant requests, and helping put together Starlight’s 2nd biggest fundraiser of the year, Starry Night at Starlight!   

Maria has visited Starlight many times for concerts and shows, as well as serving on the inaugural Blue Star Awards Student Council. 

“Starlight excels at finding what makes people fall in love with this historic venue and unique experience and then invites them to be a part of it,” she said. 

Before arriving at Starlight for the summer, Maria had her first experience studying abroad with her college choir in Ireland.

Jamie in Production

Jamie – Technical production Intern, Production Department 
Jamie is a student at the University of Missouri majoring in Film production and Theatre. As the Technical Production Intern, Jamie is responsible for various tasks, from drawing up contracts and running sound for small events, to crafting prop cakes out of Styrofoam and grout for shows. 

“From the very first time I visited Starlight, I knew I wanted to be behind the curtain,” said Jamie. “The lure of the hidden world backstage was magnetic for me.” 

Jamie was drawn to Starlight because they wanted to become a part of the magic of theatre. After seeing Starlight’s offers for summer internships, they didn’t think twice and applied immediately!
