National Philanthropy Day
Two of Starlight’sbiggest supporters were honored with special awards at this year’s National Philanthropy Day Awards on Thursday, November 11. The ceremony was put on by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Kansas City Chapter, and honored Kansas City individuals and companies that embody the spirit of philanthropy.
Amy Guerichwas the recipient of this year‘s award for Spirit of Philanthropy – Individual/Family, which honors an individual or family with a proven record of embodying the spirit of philanthropy through financial support, community service, and/or leadership.
Amy first began her service to Starlight as a member of the Young Friends of Starlight Steering Committee in 2018. Currently, Amy serves on the Starlight Theatre Board of Directors, Planned Giving Advisory Council, Campaign Cabinet and Philanthropy Committee. Most recently, Amy served as a member of the inaugural class of All-Stars in support of Starry Night at Starlight, raising more than $31,000 for Starlight’s Bob Rohlf Internship program.

Doug Jones was the recipient of this year’s award for Excellence in Legacy Giving, which honors an exemplary planned giving relationship between a donor and a charitable organization and/or fundraising professional. The award was given in partnership with the Mid-America Charitable Gift Planners.
Doug and his late husband, John Sanger, agreed they wanted to do something that would provide young kids who would not otherwise be able to attend live theatre the opportunity to do so. In partnership with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, Doug worked to establish the Doug Jones and John Sanger Theater Ticket Fund, with the goal of enriching the lives of students from low-to-moderate income communities by making funds available for these students to experience professional musical theatre performances. In addition to Doug’s legacy gift, he also volunteers his time on Starlight’s Planned Giving Advisory Council, and is always happy to lend his voice to help advocate for Starlight’s legacy efforts.
