Tap Dance Stamps for the US Postal Service

Tap Dance

Have any mail to send? Well, there may be the perfect stamp for you. Broadway photographer Matthew Murphy and art director Ethel Kessler recently created tap dance stamps for the US Postal Service. These stamps were created to celebrate the art of tap dancing and to recognize it “as a uniquely American contribution to world dance.” Tap dancing was created from a blend of dance styles including traditional African dance, the Irish jig and English clog dancing. By the 1920s, tap had made its mark on the Broadway stage, and it is still an influential dance style today. The Tap Dance stamps are issued as Forever Stamps, which means they will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price, and they are made in the USA. The stamps feature five dancers against bright backgrounds to emphasize the dancers’ movements. You can get them today at store.usps.com.
