Only at Starlight Theatre can you laugh your way through 1595 London and view delightful dance numbers in 1945 Paris in the same month. So, whether you’re a romantic at heart, a dance devotee, history buff or comedy fan, July at Starlight offers something for everyone! Two musicals fresh from Broadway – An American in Paris and Something Rotten! – are set to make their Kansas City debuts on the Starlight stage.

Inspired by the 1951 film of the same name starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron, An American in Paris is the story of an American soldier, a mysterious French girl and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war. With Tony® Award-winning choreography from acclaimed director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon and classic songs from George and Ira Gershwin, this musical romance will capture hearts.

An American in Paris, winner of more Tonys than any other musical in 2015, dances the night away at Starlight on July 11-16.

Shortly after An American in Paris dances away to its next tour stop, Something Rotten! rolls into Kansas City via 16th century London. Back in those Renaissance times, playwright brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are looking for the next BIG thing. One BIG obstacle, however, stands in the way of their success – the literary megastar William Shakespeare. With some inspiration and hard work, the Bottom brothers still might find their way to the top!

The smash-hit original musical from the director of The Book of Mormon and Disney’s Aladdin began its U.S. national tour in January after running on Broadway for nearly two years. It brings farce and frivolity to Starlight on July 25-30.
