American Girl + Starlight = Fun for All

Parents, children and dolls experienced the magic of Starlight Theatre this summer at American Girl’s exclusive group outings to three Broadway shows (Annie, Cinderella and Mary Poppins). Starlight, in turn, coordinated a number of activities for these special guests.

Working with Starlight’s Group Sales department, American Girl Kansas City offered its customers a unique theatrical experience, including pre-show dining, backstage tours, meet-and-greets with cast members and, of course, top-quality Broadway shows at a group discount price. Group size was capped at 50 per show to keep the experience intimate for all who participated.

Upon arriving for the June 20 performance of Annie, the American Girl guests were greeted by all seven Annie “orphans” for a private meet-and-greet. TheAnnie actresses shared their love for their own American Girl dolls, answered questions and took photos with the families. After enjoying a private dinner in Starlight’s Berger Rehearsal Hall, members of the American Girl group took their seats and watched in awe as the orphans they had just met performed on stage.

A few weeks later when American Girl brought another group to Starlight on July 12 for Cinderella, families shared in the fun of Starlight’s pre-show Fairy Tale Festival. The children tried out face painting, crown making, games and much more before enjoying a private dinner and another spectacular show.

The third of American Girl’s trio of group outings was Starlight’s production of Mary Poppins on Aug. 1. Once off the bus, families took a private venue and backstage tour before enjoying a private dinner. They were soon joined by young actors Fiona Scott and Maddox Bane, who played the roles of Jane and Michael Banks in the show. Fiona and Maddox answered questions and took photos with the group before heading back to stage to perform a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious show.

American Girl store manager Joan Boswell had positive response to the outings at Starlight in 2015. “Your team made us feel very welcome, and many of the parents commented on this,” she said. “Thank you for making the experience feel so premium.”

“All of us at Starlight thoroughly enjoyed creating fun-filled Starlight nights for so many American Girl families this summer,” said Staci Shute, Starlight group sales coordinator. “We hope to welcome them back in 2016 and for many seasons to come!”
