Starlight Partners with KC Pet Project to Sponsor Animals

The saying is, “Never work with animals or kids,” but I disagree. Anytime we get a chance to work with a fuzzy ball of joy, we jump at it! Starlight is excited to partner with KC Pet Project to sponsor adoption fees for two animals to celebrate our final Broadway show of 2025: Life of Pi, September 16-21.

After a shipwreck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a sixteen-year-old boy named Pi survives on a lifeboat with four companions—a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a Royal Bengal tiger, “Richard Parker.” This remarkable story of hope, faith, and perseverance speaks to every generation. Told with jaw-dropping visuals, world class puppetry and exquisite stagecraft, the Broadway and West End sensation Life of Pi creates a visually breathtaking journey that will leave you filled with awe and joy.

“At Starlight, we believe every story deserves a home—both on our stage and in our community,” Lindsey Rood-Clifford, Starlight President + C.E.O., said. “Partnering with KC Pet Project to sponsor adoption fees for ‘Richard Parker’ and ‘Richard Barker’ is a joyful way to celebrate Life of Pi and connect our audiences with their potential pet companions.”

Today, we’re announcing our special local cast members:

Orange and white kitten playing with a green ball of paper.
My cuteness cannot be contained.

Richard Parker (swing)
There are no tigers at Pet Project, but Richard Parker is the most playful kitten around and would love to bring a joyous, adorable energy to his perfect home. He is absolutely feral over toys (especially the crinkly ones) and will entertain himself for hours. When we say “entertain” he will flop and throw himself in any direction to get that toy!!

This snuggly, 4-month-old purring machine loves scritches under his chin and ears. He would thrive in a home with another kitten or playful cat. Richard Parker is new to the shelter, but is already a favorite of their cat team! He is available for adoption at the KC Pet Project – Main Campus!

Who can resist this “goodest” boy?

Since cats can’t have all the fun, we’re including a second swing:

Richard Barker (second swing)
Richard Barker is the sweetest, little 9-month-old pup you’ll ever meet! Just like Richard Parker, he will stay by your side through thick and thin. 💙 Richard is relatively new to our shelter, but he is more than ready to find his perfect home.

This young guy is great on leash, loves treats, and knows sit. He is a cuddly boy, who will melt into your arms with a little affection. Sweet, snuggly and ready to be your very best friend, what more could you ask for? Richard has also been social in playgroups at the shelter, which means he would most likely do well with a canine sibling or two! He is available for adoption at the KC Pet Project – Main Campus.
