Forbidden Broadway Will Return to New York This Fall
Forbidden Broadway, the long-running musical spoof, returns to New York City this fall to take aim at a new slew of shows with Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation. Gerard Alessandrini, the creator of the series of honored stage shows, will direct, and plans all-new sketches and parodies inspired by Tony Award-winning hits like Hadestown, Oklahoma! and Beetlejuice. Alessandrini also wrote and created the Hamilton spoof, Spamitlon, which will play Starlight Theatre November 5-17 as part of the 2019-2020 Starlight Indoors season.
2019 Emmy Awards Celebrate Broadway With Nominations for Fosse/Verdon, Billy Porter, and More
Numerous Broadway stars and stage-inspired shows celebrated Emmy nominations this month, with the FX limited series Fosse/Verdon leading the pack with a total of 17 nominations. The 2018 Tony Awards, and the live broadcast of Rent on Fox each received nominations as well, and Springsteen on Broadway received a nomination for Outstanding Variety Special, which puts The Boss within reach of EGOT status - that’s an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. If achieved, he will join the ranks with just 15 others who have ever EGOT-ed - people like Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rita Moreno and John Legend, to name a few. The 71st Emmy Awards will be held September 22 and telecast live on Fox.
Go Inside Rehearsal for the National Tour of Mean Girls
Starlight’s Blue Star Awards alum Eric Huffman is hitting the road as Damien in the national Broadway Tour of Mean Girls, kicking off September 21 in Buffalo, New York. Huffman won the Blue Star Award for Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role for his portrayals of Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde in Shawnee Mission West High School’s production of Jekyll and Hyde in the 2006-2007 season. Since then, he has been pursuing a career in the arts and traveling the country in the ensemble of The Book of Mormon. Now, he takes a lead role in Mean Girls, and we can't wait to see him out on the road. Break a leg, Eric!
