Richard Linklater to Spend 20 Years Making Sondheim Musical Movie
Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater has another project in the works - and this one has a big Broadway name tied to it. Similar to his film Boyhood, Linklater will shoot a film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Merrily We Roll Along over two decades, with Tony Award winner Ben Platt at the helm of the project. Merrily We Roll Along tells the story of a Broadway composer turned Hollywood producers, and moves backwards in time from the height of his fame. It originally premiered on Broadway in 1981, and recently saw an Off-Broadway revival as well. We’ll bring you updates on this new film version as we have them - over the next 20 or so years.
