Know the Show: School of Rock
What happens when a failed, wannabe rock star meets a group of strait-laced kids who are insanely talented musicians? See School of Rock June 3-8 to find out!
The premise of the hilarious 2003 film of the same name gets an Andrew Lloyd Weber glow up with 14 new songs. All the original songs from the movie are included as well and the kids play their own instruments live on stage!
The show opened on Broadway in 2015 but this is a local production, featuring an almost exclusively local cast. Rehearsals take place at Starlight unlike a touring show. It brings a different air of excitement to have people in the venue working together to learn and create the show from the ground up.
Rock Out for 75 Years!
Opening night of School of Rock is June 3, which just happens to be the 75th anniversary of the first ever opening night at Starlight in 1950!
Arrive early on June 3 to join the party as we celebrate — walk through our history and discover fun facts about the theatre that’s been rockin’ KC since 1950.
Plus, we’ll have rock n’ roll tattoos, light up letters for the ultimate selfies, a photo booth, and more fun the whole week!
Content Themes
School of Rock deals with self-acceptance, love of music, teamwork, determination, working to achieve goals, and rebellion. Includes references to drugs and alcohol and mild profanity.
