During Starlight’s six performances of Godspell June 22-27, Starlight hosted a food drive organized by the Theatre Community Fund of Kansas City (TCF). Starlight employees and guests were encouraged to donate nonperishables and basic hygiene items, which benefited local theatre professionals experiencing financial hardship. Starlight was proud to partner with another nonprofit that serves Kansas Citians, especially a nonprofit such as TCF that displays a commitment to benefiting the arts community.

“We have been incredibly impressed with how quickly and intentionally the Theatre Community Fund has stepped in to meet the needs of theatre artists, technicians, administrators and other creatives,” said Starlight’s Vice President of Community Engagement Alex Jones. “Partnering with TCF during Starlight's first Broadway performances of the season felt like an important effort, and we are grateful for the resources they are providing this community.”

In total, an equivalent of a month’s worth of donations for TCF’s food pantry was collected through the partnership.

“Our week long food drive partnership with Starlight was such a blast and yielded a huge amount of donations for our pantry!” said TCF on Facebook. “We feel deep gratitude for this opportunity to visit with folks and to increase our ability to provide food assistance for KC families in need.”

For those who are still interested in donating, TCF has an open food bank that accepts donations every Monday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Unicorn Theatre. The TCF Food Bank is available to any theatre artist and strives to offer the community the assistance that its members deserve, while aiming to take the stigma out of needing help. TCF is also accepting volunteers for The Ensemble, a group of TCF volunteers that serves the Kansas City theatre community.

The mission and purpose of the Theatre Community Fund of Kansas City (TCF) is to support all Kansas City theatre performing artists and technicians during financial distress or hardship with volunteer support, food bank accessibility and financial relief.
