The hilarious spoof based on the iconic hit television show is an evening of cheesecake, laughter, jazzercise and more, and is told in a series of three “episodes.” Fans can expect the same sarcastic and witty banter--this time, with puppets! From Sophia’s get-rich-quick schemes, to Rose’s tales of St. Olaf, Blanche’s hunt for the Fountain of Youth, and Dorothy’s daily struggle to make sense of her life, don’t miss That Golden Girls Show! Disney's Aida Revival to Premiere in 2021
Disney Theatrical Productions recently announced that Aida would be hitting the road again for an all-new tour in 2021. The beloved Elton John and Tim Rice musical originally premiered on Broadway in March 2000 and was nominated for five Tony Awards that season, going on to become one of the biggest hits of the decade. Aida tells the story of star-crossed lovers, torn between their loyalties to their countries and to each other. This new production will feature reimagined sets and costumes from a Tony Award-winning team, with direction by original cast member Schele (shelley) Williams.
Netflix's 13 Movie Musical Adaptation Is Holding an Open Casting Call for Teens
The 2008 Broadway musical 13 is the latest to be slated for a Netflix adaptation. The musical tells the story of Evan Goldman, a boy about to turn 13 and celebrate his Bar Mitzvah. But, when Evan's parents suddenly divorce, he is uprooted from his home in New York City and moved to Indiana, where he must navigate the trials of adolescence and his new small-town life. A premiere date has yet to be announced for 13, but filming is set to begin in August. Check back with Broadway Beat and we’ll be sure to bring you updates as we hear them!
James Corden, John Mulaney, More Join Cinderella Movie
Sony has assembled a star-studded cast for an upcoming musical film adaptation of Cinderella. First conceived by late-show host and Tony Award winner James Corden, this re-telling of the classic fairytale will focus on an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow. Cordon also joins the cast alongside John Mulaney and Romesh Ranganathan as the Mice/Footmen. Grammy Award-winner Camila Cabello stars as the title role, with Broadway veterans Idina Menzel and Billy Porter as the evil stepmother and the fairy godmother, respectively. Audiences can expect to see the film in theatres in February 2021.
