Teaching Artists Needed for Disney Musicals in Schools Program

In June, Starlight was awarded a $150,000 grant from Disney to bring the Disney Musicals in Schools program to Kansas City. The program develops sustainable musical theatre programs in area elementary schools.

Starlight will select up to five elementary schools in the Kansas City metro area to participate in the program during the 2025-2026 school year. Selected schools will receive free in-school support from Starlight Teaching Artists, as well as free performance rights and show materials.

Through professional development, participating school teachers will learn how to produce, direct, choreograph, and music direct. At the end of the teaching period, students will perform a 30-minute Disney KIDS musical at their school.

Teaching Artists

Disney Musicals in Schools Teaching Artists guide and train local teachers to run Disney KIDS musicals for elementary students, acting as directors, music directors, and choreographers while also coaching the school’s internal team on technical aspects, production management, and community engagement.

Over 17 weeks, Teaching Artists facilitate a comprehensive theater education, fostering confidence, collaboration, and empathy in students and empowering teachers to build sustainable arts programs at their schools.

Artists who are interested in working with this program can apply now. Deadline to apply is September 15, 2025.
