5 Ideas for New Year’s Resolutions
It’s that time of year. Everyone is making resolutions to improve their health or spend less time scrolling or “be more whimsical” (whatever that means). Starlight would like to propose a few resolution ideas, especially for theatre people. Whether you’re a performer or just love the experience, here’s a list of ways to make 2026 a great year for theatre!
1. If you’re a performer, take a class in acting, songwriting, improv, voice or dance. Maybe work on your collection of dialects with a coach!
2. If you’re a writer or creator, reading plays is a good way to find inspiration. Many local libraries have excellent free resources or visit New Play Exchange ($12 a year).
3. If you simply love live entertainment, supporting local venues and actors is a great way to make a difference. Choose one production in Kansas City each month to attend. There are plenty of opportunities, from big-time tours to community and even high school productions.
4. If you’re a theatre junkie, maybe this is the year you plan a trip to New York City to see a show. If you can’t make it to Broadway, Starlight can help! Check out the upcoming 2026 Broadway season. Tip: Starlight season tickets start at less than one regular ticket in New York! Tickets to individual shows will be available beginning March 3.
5. If you’re looking for ways to be more present, theatre can help you focus on more live experiences and less digital ones. Plus, it’s a great excuse to get together with friends in person.
