Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

Netflix has announced an adaptation of August Wilson’s play, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom to premiere on the streaming service on December 18th. The show takes place over the course of an afternoon in the 1920s, where a band of musicians works with the legendary Ma Rainey in a recording studio. Tensions and temperatures rise - and stories unfold that will change the course of their lives forever. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom stars Academy Award winner Viola Davis as Ma, and the late Chadwick Boseman as Levee, the trumpeter. The play was originally nominated for a Tony Award in 1985 and won a Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best American Play that same year.
