Performers from Jimmy Awards at Starlight

Jimmy Awards

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards™ (the Jimmy Awards) celebrates the best in high school musical theatre from across the nation.

Each year, two Blue Star Awards winners travel to New York City to compete against other high school students from across the United States for Best Performance by an Actor and Actress, as well as other honors and scholarships. In addition to the awards ceremony, students participate in training with theatre professionals.

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards has granted students more than $1 million in university and conservatory scholarships and resulted in opportunities for competitors to be cast in Broadway, touring, and West End productions. Starlight’s 2021 Blue Star Awards winner Justin Cooley was cast in Kimberly Akimbo, a role that led to a Tony Award nomination.

Starlight is grateful to Southwest Airlines and The Jeannette & Jerome Cohen Philanthropic Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Kansas City for their generous sponsorship of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Their support gives two talented Kansas City high school students the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore opportunities as aspiring performers.
