Your Guide to a Strange Night Under the Stars

It’s almost October and people are starting to think about fun fall activities in Kansas City. Whether it’s something a little spooky, something outdoors, or something for the whole family, Starlight has all three in one weekend! 

Beetlejuice The Musical is coming to town October 2-4, only at Starlight Theatre. Tickets are on sale now and available online, by calling (816) 363-7827, or by visiting the ticket office at 4600 Starlight Road, Kansas City Mo., 64132.

Something a Little Spooky: The Show 

As the song says, “Welcome to a show about death.” Yes, the show is about people who have died, but it’s also got comedy, spectacle, over-the-top gags, and a touching message about family, love, and making the most of every day-o.  

Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. 

The show achieves its spooky, haunted-house vibe through a mix of Tim Burton-inspired aesthetics, theatrical special effects, and dark comedy.   

Something Outdoors: The Setting 

Starlight Theatre is a historic theatre set in Swope Park, part of the City of Kansas City Parks system. Starlight’s grounds fit beautifully into the park setting with flowers, trees, and plants throughout.   

Kansas City is the City of Fountains, and Starlight has a couple you can relax by with a drink or bite to eat. The Shirley Bush Helzberg Garden of the Stars is a prime spot to watch the sunset and enjoy the surroundings.  

It’s best to arrive while there’s still daylight, watch the sky change, then settle in as the show begins. If the weather is cool, be sure to bring a jacket or even a blanket! If it’s warm, enjoy a cool breeze from the four mega fans in the seating bowl. We even have ponchos for $1 in case there is a chance of rain. Honestly, it could be hot or cold or in between; it’s best to be prepared! #fakefall

Something for the Family: Events and Extras  

Starlight has pre-show activities and themed celebrations for every show. This show will have Beetlejuice stickers, a signing wall, fun photo opportunities with pumpkins, and more. Be careful! You may end up sitting by someone who isn’t entirely alive. 

For adults, October 3 is the spook-tacular Beetlejuice Monster Bash in the beer garden. The experience includes: 

• Unlimited beer, Quirks, water, & soda through intermission 

• Unlimited smoked wings, pretzel bites with queso, and a nacho bar until 8 p.m. 

• A relaxed, private space to gather with friends before the show 

A ticket to the evening’s performance of Beetlejuice is required (tickets start at $24). You can add Monster Bash tickets ($74/person) after you select your seats to Beetlejuice.
