Two Winners From Starlight’s Blue Star Awards Compete at the Jimmy Awards, Hosted by Corbin Bleu
A big Starlight congratulations goes to Justin Cooley and Ava Wolesky for winning Outstanding Actor and Actress in a Lead Role at Starlight’s 2021 Blue Star Awards! These talented performers will go on to represent Starlight at the national Jimmy Awards, which will be presented by the Broadway League on Thursday, July 15, to celebrate the best of high school musical talent. This year’s Jimmy Awards will be hosted by Broadway, film and television star Corbin Bleu. Starlight is proud of these students for representing Kansas City. Good luck, and congrats again to Olathe East High School’s Justin Cooley and Liberty North High School’s Ava Wolesky!
“Thelma & Louise” Is Adapted Into a Musical
It was recently announced that a musical adaptation of “Thelma & Louise” is currently in the works. The original feminist crime film from 1991 starred Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis and followed the story of two friends on a road trip who run into unexpected circumstances. “Thelma & Louise,” which won an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for its original screenplay by Callie Khouri, now prepares to take to the stage with a script by Halley Feiffer and original songs by Neko Case, with Trip Cullman to direct. The musical is still in its early stages, with a potential premiere date yet to be announced.
“Schmigadoon!” Becomes Available on Apple TV+ July 16, 2021
“Schmigadoon!” comes to Apple TV+. This new musical TV show is written by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul, who have previously collaborated to write hit films including “Despicable Me” and “The Secret Life of Pets.” “Schmigadoon!” follows the story of a couple from New York City, played by Cecily Strong and Keegan Michael-Key, as they go on a hiking trip to rekindle the flame of their relationship. The two characters, Josh and Melissa, get lost only to find themselves in Schmigadoon, a 1940s town in which life is a musical. Josh and Melissa find themselves stuck there until they can find true love. Will the couple ever make it out of Schmigadoon?
