She charmed us as Amaryllis in Starlight’s 2008 production of The Music Man, dazzled us as a tap-dancing teen in last summer’s Anything Goes, In her 2008 Starlight debut, Katherine landed the plum role of Amaryllis in The Music Man. and, now, 14-year-old Katherine McNamara of Lee’s Summit is making her mark on Broadway in the very first revival of A Little Night Music.

Be warned. You will go home singing “No one shoots like Gaston” and/or “Be our guest.” And when you get home, regardless of your coordination (or uncoordination) level, you may also find yourself dancing a few steps. Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” which is kicking off national tour at the Providence Performing Arts Center, delighted its audience Wednesday night, an audience whose collective concerns about the snowstorm were escorted away by this production, billed as bigger and better than the original stage production, which had a run of more than 13 years (5,461 performances) on Broadway (in New York, not Providence).

Universal Pictures is planning a redo of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, but the new film may wind up looking different than the 1978 Broadway musical or the 1982 film version starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. According to Variety, producers plan to give the story of the famed Chicken Ranch brothel a “modern take” and, although the film will feature musical numbers, it may or may not use the original songs.

The temperatures outside may have been frosty, but the heat radiating from the stage of the Afrikan Centered Education Collegium Campus’ Upper School auditorium the evening of Dec. 21 was intense. The fifth- and sixth-grade “scholars” in the inaugural class of Starlight on Site at ACECC were definitely up to the challenge of performing The Lion King live for more than 200 admiring parents, siblings, neighbors, teachers and friends.
